Top seed Iga Swiatek will take on Sloane Stephens in the Second Round of the 2022 US Open on Thursday.
Swiatek has failed to win a tournament since lifting the French Open trophy back in June. Actually, her performances were kind of disappointing since then, having lost in the Third Round at Wimbledon and Warszaw and then in the Second Round in Toronto and Cincinnati.
The Polish ace kicked off her US Open campaign with a routine straight sets victory over Jasmine Paolini and will now be looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time in a month. Overall, Swiatek has won 51 matches this season.
Stephens, meanwhile, has lost six of her last nine matches across all surfaces. She has suffered back-to-back Second Round eliminations in Toronto and Cincinnati of late.
In the opening round of the US Open, 2017 champion Stephens saw off Greet Minnen in three sets, which was actually only her third victory to have come in the last three months.
Stephens’ best performances of the season so far are a title in Guadalajara and a Quarter-Final in Paris.
