Angelique Kerber and Sloane Stephens will go head-to-head in the Third Round of the 201 US Open on Friday.
Kerber has been in excellent shape over the past three months, having won 17 of her last 20 matches. During this run, the German lift the trophy in Bad Homburg on grass, as well as reaching the semifinals in Wimbledon and Cincinnati Masters.
The 33-year-old began her 2021 US Open campaign with a 2-1 victory over Dayana Yastremska in the first round and then secured a 6-3, 6-2 win against Anhelina Kalinina in the second round.
Stephens had a decent clay season, but her recent form on hard courts hasn’t been great. She has suffered early exits in San Jose, Montreal and Cincinnati, but kicked off her US Open campaign in an emphatic manner.
She defeated Madison Keys in straight sets in the opening round and then secured a fantastic 6-4,6-2 victory over Cori Gauff in the second round.
