Former champion Andy Murray resumes his 2022 US Open campaign with a Second Round tie against Emilio Nava on Wednesday.

Former world number one Murray has made immense strides after career-threatening hip surgery a few years ago, returning to the world’s top 50 courtesy of a series of strong runs in recent months.

The Scot has progressed to two finals this year, most recently on his beloved grass surface in Stuttgart, narrowly losing out to Matteo Berrettini.

The 35-year-old was beaten in the opening round in Washington before losing out to in-form Taylor Fritz at the same stage of the Canadian Open and lost from a set up against fellow Brit Cameron Norrie at the Cincinnati Masters.

Murray, champion here a decade ago, has appeared in all but two US Opens since 2005 and stormed through the opening round in straight sets against 24th seed Francisco Cerúndolo on Monday.

With Stefanos Tsitsipas having suffered a shock early exit, Murray’s section of the draw has already opened up and he will be keen to pick up from where he left off on Day One.

He now faces world number 200 Nava – who pulled off an epic five-set win over John Millman to mark his first success in a Grand Slam.

Twice a junior Grand Slam finalist, the 20-year-old American claimed a Challenger title on clay in Kazakhstan in May and is now facing the biggest night of his career to date.

Either 13th seed Matteo Berrettini or Hugo Grenier will await the winner in the Third Round later in the week.
