The Wimbledon champion is still on course to win back-to-back Grand Slams but Marketa Vondrousova has a tricky tie now against young home hope Peyton Stearns.
Peyton Stearns vs Marketa Vondrousova Prediction
Vondrousova is now 10 matches unbeaten at Grand Slams, a run which began with a straight sets win over Stearns in the opening round at Wimbledon.
The Czech is the heavy favourite in the market, and she has won her last five when priced up as short as this. However, she should, of course, be winning those matches if she is as strongly fancied as that. Vondrousova is not historically known for her high level on hard courts, however, her win percentage on hard is perfectly good at 64%. This is not as high as the 70% she enjoys on clay, but is comparable to her career win/loss record. Her record in North America is good at 67%.
Stearns has really only broken through as a professional this season, but shouldn’t be underestimated. Her win/loss record in the last 12 months is a superb 71%.
Vondrousova has the superior data on both serve and return across the last few weeks on the hard court swing. She is rightly favourite and has to be backed to win through into the quarter-finals.
