Karolina Pliskova and Maria Sakkari will go toe-to-toe in the quarterfinals of the 2021 US Open on Wednesday night.
For the first time in three years, Karolina Pliskova is back in the US Open Quarter-Finals. She has reached this stage in this event back in 2017 and 2018, while she was a runner-up to Angelique Kerber back in 2016.
The Czech has defeated the likes of McNally, Anisimova, Tomljanovic, and Pavlyuchenkova en route to the last eight and has dropped just one set in the process. Karolina has been a semifinalist or finalist in each of the four Grand Slam events but is yet to win a major title.
Sakkari survived an epic three-hour and 30-minute marathon Round of 16 match against 2019 US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu. This was the toughest test for the Greek at the US Open 2021 so far, as she previously won in straight sets against Kostyuk, Siniakova, and Kvitova.
Sakkari hasn’t been at her best over the past few months, but it seems she has finally found form here in Flushing Meadows.
