Emma Raducanu steps up her debut US Open quest with a clash against Shuai Zhang in the Second Round on Thursday.
Teenage sensation Raducanu has already proven that her landmark run at Wimbledon was no flash in the pan, having backed up her debut qualification for the main draw at Flushing Meadows with a superb First Round display.
The 18-year-old swept aside Switzerland’s Stefanie Vogele 6-2, 6-3 despite being a break down in each set and is now the only Briton remaining in the women’s draw.
Raducanu reached the Fourth Round as a wildcard at Wimbledon in July but is here on merit and making a rapid rise up the world rankings.
She now looks to avenge her defeat to China’s Zhang in San Jose last month, with the world number 49 having defeated Hailey Baptiste 6-3, 6-4 in her opener.
Two-time WTA event winner Zhang was a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon in 2019 and the Australian Open in 2016.
The 32-year-old has vast experience in major tournaments, but faces a young opponent riding the crest of a wave and showing no signs of fear against top opposition.
We expect a close-run contest on Court Ten and are opting for over 21.5 total games.
