Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur will vie for 2022 US Open glory in the Women’s Singles final on Saturday.
Two-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek was a set down in her Semi-Final match against Aryna Sabalenka. However, the Pole responded strongly and won two consecutive sets in a row to clinch her spot in the final. That marked her ninth consecutive win against top 10 players.
Swiatek had a slow start to the US hard-court swing, winning just one match in Toronto and Cincinnati. Furthermore, she was not that confident ahead of US Open, as she had never previously gone beyond the Fourth Round at Flushing Meadows.
The most impressive thing about Swiatek is that she is very focused once she reaches the final of a tournament. She has won all her nine finals in her career and has not dropped a single set in the process.
Jabeur ended Caroline Garcia’s 13-match winning streak in a strong manner, having lost just four games in the process. Similar to Swiatek, the Tunisian had a poor start to the US hard-court swing, winning only two matches in three warm-up tournaments.
This will be Jabeur’s second consecutive appearance in a Grand Slam final after she stood a set away from the title at Wimbledon, and she is aiming to create history by becoming the first Arab woman to win a major.
However, she has won just three of her nine appearances in finals to date and will be determined to take that next step in New York.
