Stefanos Tsitsipas steps up his pursuit of US Open glory with a clash against Adrian Mannarino in the Second Round.
Tsitsipas was at the centre of controversy on the opening day at Flushing Meadows when he was accused of time-wasting by his opponent Andy Murray.
The number three seed dug deep to deny 2012 champion Murray in a fifth set marathon, with the Scot left raging by being kept waiting on court for eight minutes as Tsitsipas took a toilet break.
The Greek star will now look to continue his progress in the season’s final Grand Slam event – in which he has never made it beyond the Third Round.
Runner-up in this year’s French Open and a semi-finalist at the Australian Open, Tsitsipas looks to be edging ever-closer to a maiden major title.
Standing in the way of the 6ft 4 right-hander is 33-year-old Frenchman Mannarino – who has also never progressed beyond the Third Round stage at Flushing Meadows.
Mannarino, who turned pro in 2004, also came through a gruelling five-set show-down in Round One, denying his fellow countryman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Unsurprisingly, the bookmakers make Tsitsipas huge odds-on favourite to progress, but we expect Mannarino to put up a stern fight and are opting for over 28.5 total games as our best bet.
