US Open 2021 Day Three Preview and Order of Play | Osaka, Gauff, Medvedev in action

Naomi Osaka continues the defence of her title on Day Three of the US Open, while former champion Sloane Stephens and former finalists Daniil Medvedev are also in action.

Two-time champion Osaka began her latest campaign at Flushing Meadows with a routine straight sets win over Marie Bouzková on Monday.

The Japanese star now comes up against Serbian qualifier Olga Danilović – a player appearing at this stage of the tournament for the first time.

Also starring in the Arthur Ashe Stadium is 2019 finalist Daniil Medvedev as he takes on Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.

Number two seed Medvedev is bidding to avoid becoming the biggest casualty of the tournament so far and will be poised for a tough test from the left-hander.

Two home favourites collide as 2017 champion Sloane Stephens faces number 21 seed Coco Gauff.

Stephens saw off Madison Keys in a third set tie break in Round One, a match which signalled a repeat of the final from four years ago.

Gauff also needed a third set decider to overcome Magda Linette and is aiming to reach the Third Round here for the second time.

Fresh from his controversial win over Andy Murray on opening day, third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas returns to face Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Tsitsipas dug deep to deny 2012 champion Murray in a fifth set marathon, with the Scot accusing his opponent of deliberately time-wasting during toilet breaks.

Elsewhere, Frances Tiafoe is fast becoming a crowd favourite and will look to delight the New York fans by seeing off  Guido Pella in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Other stand-out ties include big-serving Kevin Anderson against 11th seed Diego Schwartzman and women’s number two seed Aryna Sabalenka taking on French Open semi-finalist Tamara Zidanšek.
