US Open 2021 Draw | Djokovic in same quarter to Berrettini and Hurkacz

The draw for the 2021 US Open has been confirmed, with Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini and Hubert Hurkacz situated in the same quarter.

The 141st US Open takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York from August 30 to September 12.

The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year will be held on outdoor hard courts, with both the men’s and women’s singles draws featuring 32 seeded players and a host of qualifiers and wildcards.

Matches are held across 15 courts, including the three existing main show courts – Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and Grandstand.

Dominic Thiem is the reigning men’s champion but will be absent from this year’s US Open due to a wrist injury.

Novak Djokovic is the number one seed and is aiming to become only the second man in the Open Era, after Rod Laver in 1969, to complete the Calendar Year Grand Slam.

Djokovic is also attempting to claim an outright record 21st major singles title and break a tie he currently holds with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The Serbian star will begin his latest US Open campaign with a First Round tie against a qualifier, but is situated in the same quarter of the draw as the likes of Japan’s Kei Nishikori, tenth seed Hurkacz and sixth seed Berrettini.

One of the stand-out First Round ties of the men’s singles draw sees third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas take on 2012 champion Andy Murray.

Daniil Medvedev, runner-up in 2019, starts out against 2013 semi-finalist Richard Gasquet, while Casper Ruud faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Roberto Bautista Agut meets Nick Kyrgios.

Naomi Osaka is the defending women’s singles champion and will start her title defence against Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic.

Top seed Ash Barty, the reigning Wimbledon champion, will take on Vera Zvonareva, while Aryna Sabalenka, the number two seed, opens up against Nina Stojanovic.

Madison Keys meets Sloane Stephens in a repeat of the 2017 final, while 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu takes on Viktorija Golubic.
