US Open 2022 | Day Six Preview and Order of Play

Rafael Nadal puts his perfect Grand Slam record for 2022 on the line once more when he plays Richard Gasquet in the US Open third round on Saturday.

The Spaniard, who has already landed the Australian Open and French Open crowns, is now an unblemished 21-0 in majors this year, as he targets a fifth triumph at Flushing Meadows.

Though having only recently returned after an abdominal injury, the 22-time major winner has been a slow starter so far; dropping the opening set in each of his first two matches against Rinky Hijikata and Fabio Fognini.

The second seed has eventually recovered and ran out a commanding winner on each occasion, but he will want to be quicker out of the blocks against Gasquet.

Appearing at Flushing Meadows for the 18th consecutive year, the experienced Frenchman is looking to reach round four for the first time since 2015.

Nadal’s compatriot Carlos Alcaraz also faces a tricky test in home favourite Jenson Brooksby, who is aiming to progress to the fourth round for the second year running.

Jannik Sinner is aiming to do the same against Brandon Nakashima, as is Daniel Evans when he takes on 2014 winner Marin Cilic.

Los Cabos runner-up Cameron Norrie targets a 12th win in 15 matches against a resurgent Holger Rune, who arrived in New York off the back of 10 defeats in 12, while two-time quarter-finalists Andrey Rublev and Diego Schwartzman face Denis Shapovalov and Frances Tiafoe respectively.

Over in the ladies’ draw, top seed Iga Swiatek’s quest for a seventh title of the season continues against Lauren Davis, who is enjoying her best run at a Slam, as Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova go head to head in a tasty clash.

Having taken out fourth seed Paula Badosa, Petra Martic seeks another scalp in three-time runner-up Victoria Azarenka, while Petra Kvitova targets a sixth successive victory over ninth seed Garbine Muguruza.

Clara Burel is eyeing her first major fourth-round appearance when she takes on sixth seed Aryna Sabalenka, as home favourites Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins play Yue Yuan and Alize Cornet respectively.
