It is now 26 years since Williams announced herself on the big stage when she reached the US Open final on debut.
She then went on to lift the trophy in 2000 and 2001, while only a defeat by sister Serena prevented her from completing a hat-trick the following year.
Minnen was just three weeks old when Williams reached her first final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Belgian reached the third round here two years ago, while suffering first-round exits on her other two appearances at Flushing Meadows.
While it may be a closely fought encounter, you would expect the age difference may eventually play into Minnen’s hands.

Venus Williams road to the US Open
The 49-time WTA title winner has not made too many tour-level appearances this season, but did beat Camila Giorgi at Eastbourne in June.
Williams received a wildcard for the US Open and was initially due to play Paula Badosa before the Spaniard’s withdrawal through injury.
Greet Minnen road to the US Open
The world number 97 is also generally lacking match sharpness at the top level, although she has just won three matches to qualify.
Minnen was recently a Challenger Tour runner-up in Poland, while she was also a beaten finalist in Saint-Malo earlier this year.
