Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic renew their box office rivalry in the final of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Sunday.

World number one and two collide in a mouth-watering climax to the ATP 1000 event at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Ohio.

The match signals a repeat of their epic final at Wimbledon last month, in which Alcaraz prevailed in a fifth set classic to dethrone Djokovic and claim the crown for the first time.

Making his first tournament appearance since that painful defeat, Djokovic has swept through to the final this week without dropping a set.

The 36-year-old, who previously lifted this trophy in 2018 and 2020, enjoyed a smooth transition through to the Second Round following Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s enforced retirement through injury.

He then comfortably saw off a resurgent Gael Monfils in straight sets, before brushing aside ninth seed Taylor Fritz 6-0, 6-4 and closing out a 7-6, 7-5 win over 2021 champion Alexander Zverev in Saturday’s Semi-Finals.

The reigning Australian Open and French Open champion is eyeing a fourth title of the season, having also triumphed in Adelaide back in January.

Top seed Alcaraz is vying to secure a seventh title of the year, having claimed the Wimbledon crown as well as titles at Indian Wells, Madrid, Barcelona, Queen’s Club and Buenos Aires.

The Spanish sensation has had to dig deep to come through last set deciders in all four of his victories en route to the final.

Alcaraz edged past Australian qualifier Jordan Thompson in his opener before avenging last week’s defeat in the National Bank Open to Tommy Paul.

He then recovered from a set down to dispatch Max Purcell before repeating the feat against Hubert Hurkacz in the semis.

This will be the fourth meeting between Alcaraz and Djokovic, with the youngster having prevailed on two occasions, though this represents their first fixture on hard court.

The final gets under way from 9pm BST and will be contested over the best of three sets on Center Court.
