Novak Djokovic steps up his pursuit of a third Cincinnati Masters title when he takes on Alexander Zverev in the Semi-Finals on Saturday.

Making his first tournament appearance since defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final last month, Djokovic has swept through to the Semi-Finals without dropping a set.

The number two seed, who previously lifted this trophy in 2018 and 2020, enjoyed a smooth transition through to the Second Round following Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s enforced retirement through injury.

He then comfortably saw off a resurgent Gael Monfils in straight sets, before brushing aside ninth seed Taylor Fritz 6-0, 6-4.

The reigning Australian Open and French Open champion is eyeing a fourth title of the season, having also triumphed in Adelaide in January.

Zverev knows precisely what it takes to go all the way in Cincinnati, having picked up the title here two years ago, and now finds himself into a sixth Semi-Final of the season.

The number 16 seed, whose sole final appearance of 2023 so far came in Hamburg last month, began his run here with a 6-2, 6-2 success over Grigor Dimitrov.

He then overcame Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets, before ousting third seed Daniil Medvedev in a decider and dispatching veteran Adrian Mannarino in the Quarter-Finals.

Djokovic has won seven of his 11 previous meetings with Zverev, but the German prevailed in their most recent clash at the 2021 ATP Finals.

The match gets under way from around 11pm BST and will be contested over the best of three sets, with either world number one Carlos Alcaraz or Hubert Hurkacz awaiting the winner in Sunday’s final.
