Daniil Medvedev looks to record his fourth straight victory over Alexander Zverev when they collide at the Western & Southern Open.

Two former winners of this tournament go head to head in one of the standout ties of the Round of 16.

The pair have also met at this stage of three other ATP Masters 1000 events this season, with Medvedev prevailing on each occasion at Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Rome – going on to triumph at the latter.

That was the latest of five ATP titles he has captured this season – a tally only bettered by Carlos Alcaraz (six) – the world number three also going all the way in Miami, Rotterdam, Dubai and Doha during a phenomenal streak of 25 wins from 26 matches.

The former US Open champion is now targeting his second silverware in Cincinnati, where he also lifted the trophy four years ago after beating the likes of Andrey Rublev and Novak Djokovic along the way.

His quest began in a fairly dominant fashion as he comfortably overcame Lorenzo Musetti in the second round.

Meanwhile, Zverev is also yet to drop a set this week, the 2021 champion seeing off a resurgent Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-2 before defeating Yoshihito Nishioka 7-5, 6-4.

The German beat Rublev, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas on his way to the title two years ago, but was unable to defend his crown following that horrific injury in his French Open semi-final showdown with Rafael Nadal.

Zverev has demonstrated his eagerness to make up for lost time, and has momentum having recently landed his first ATP title of the campaign in Hamburg.

The winner of this match will play either Mackenzie McDonald or Adrian Mannarino in the Western & Southern Open quarter-finals.

Play gets underway at 4pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Grandstand Court.
