Stefanos Tsitsipas resumes his quest to go one better at the Western & Southern Open when he takes on Hubert Hurkacz in the last 16.

The players ranked fourth and 20th in the world respectively go head to head for the 10th time in one of the standout ties in the last 16 in Cincinnati.

Tsitsipas has dominated the head-to-head record, winning seven of the nine previous encounters, and will be confident of building on that as he looks to maintain his impressive form at the ATP Masters 1000.

A back-to-back semi-finalist in 2020 and 2021, the Greek went one better 12 months ago, but was denied the title following a 7–6(7–0), 6–2 defeat by Borna Coric.

Tsitsipas overcame Ben Shelton 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in the opening round but, despite recently claiming his first silverware of the season in Los Cabos, the Australian and Barcelona Open finalist has struggled for form.

Indeed, he has suffered early exits in five of his last six tournaments – including Wimbledon, Stuttgart and Halle – and most recently fell at the first hurdle to a resurgent Gael Monfils in Toronto last week.

That will encourage Hurkacz as he looks to reach the quarter-finals in Cincinnati for the first time.

It would represent the Pole’s fourth appearance in the last eight of any tournament during a generally modest campaign, despite triumphing in Marseille and reaching the semi-finals in Stuttgart.

Hurkacz was also beaten by world number 112 Michael Mmoh at the recent Citi Open, but he has come through two hard-fought encounters this week – beating Thanasi Kokkinakis in three sets, before coming from behind to dethrone Coric 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

The winner of this match will play either Alexei Popyrin or Emil Ruusuvuori in the Western & Southern Open quarter-finals.

Play gets underway at around 6pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Center Court.
