After an impressive start to his Wimbledon 2023 campaign, Carlos Alcaraz will attempt to defeat another Frenchman – Alexandre Muller – to reach Round Three.
The world number one made pretty short work of the retiring Jeremy Chardy, handing out a first set bagel in the process of winning through in straight sets. This victory will have re-affirmed to some that Alcaraz is deserving of support in the overall event. He certainly solidified his position as the second favourite for Wimbledon behind Novak Djokovic in the market after that performance.
Alexandre Muller is still making his way in the game and is having his maiden season on the ATP Tour. He is having a good year at the very top level as well, carrying a 62% win rate at ATP tour events.
However, comparing this to the youngster, Alcaraz is now 41 wins and 4 losses for the season, a faintly ridiculous 91% win rate.
Even though grass is an unfamiliar surface to Alcaraz, he is now six matches and six wins on grass in 2023 after his Queens title and the first round of Wimbledon. Grass certainly doesn’t seem to be a hindrance to his dominance and Muller is going to have an almost impossible task to stop him on Friday.
The winner of this match will play either Australian Jason Kubler or Chile’s 25th seed Nicolas Jarry in the third round at Wimbledon.
Play gets underway at around 1.30pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.
