British star Katie Boulter aims to continue her dream run at Wimbledon by dethroning defending champion Elena Rybakina in the Third Round on Saturday.
Making her fifth appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon, Boulter has progressed to the Third Round for the second successive year to set up a mouth-watering clash with the reigning champion on Centre Court.
The world number 89 came into the Championships full of confidence after picking up her first WTA title in Nottingham last month and has seemingly picked up from where she left off.
Boulter, a wildcard in the draw, defeated Australia’s Daria Saville in straight sets, before coming through a decider against Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova.
She is now vying to join Johanna Konta, Laura Robson, Emma Raducanu and Heather Watson as the only British women to have reached the Fourth Round of Wimbledon this century.
Boulter, however, faces a huge test of her credentials and nerve against the world number three – who is renowned for her unflappable demeanour on court.
Rybakina shot to fame last year when she stormed to her first slam title and followed that up by reaching the final of the Australian Open at the beginning of this year.
The Kazakhstan star has claimed the Indian Wells and Italian Open titles this season and is now bidding to become the first first-time winner to defend the Women’s Wimbledon title since Venus Williams in 2001.
Rybakina began her title defence by recovering from a set down to defeat Shelby Rogers, before powering past Alizé Cornet 6-2, 7-6.
No.13 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil awaits the winner in the Fourth Round next week.
Play gets underway at 8pm BST on Centre Court on Saturday and will be contested over the best of three sets.
