Marin Cilic will take on Benjamin Bonzi in the second round of the Wimbledon 2021 Championships from 2.30pm BST on Thursday.
Cilic has enjoyed a strong start on the grass surface recently, having won eight of his nine matches on this surface. The Croat has already won a title on this surface after beating Auger-Aliassime in the Stuttgart Open final, but then lost to De Minaur in the quarterfinals of the Queen’s Club Championship.
Former world number three Cilic began his Wimbledon 2021 campaign with a straight-set victory over Salvatore Caruso, but he had to work hard for this win as the first two sets ended in tiebreaks. Cilic’s most recent two visits at Wimbledon ended in the second round, against Pella in 2018 and Sousa in 2019.
Meanwhile, Bonzi started as a qualifier and had no issues in putting his name on the main draw. However, he faced his first test in the opening round of the main draw as he needed five sets to defeat Marco Trungelliti. His previous appearance in the main draw of the Wimbledon was in 2018 when he lost Lukas Lacko. Bonzi’s most recent title was in Ostrava when he beat Olivo in the final.
