Andy Murray will face the first test of his fitness at Wimbledon 2021 when he faces Denis Shapovalov in the Third Round on Friday.
Shapovalov has registered mixed results on the grass surface recently. He lost in the second round of the Stuttgart Open three weeks ago, but then managed to reach the Semi-Finals at Queen’s Club a fortnight ago. Here at Wimbledon, Shapovalov had to play a tough five-setter against Philipp Kohlschreiber in the opening round, but the good news is that he didn’t have to step on the court in the 2nd round as Pablo Andujar was forced to withdraw.
Murray, on the other hand, had to fight back from one set down to secure a five-set victory over Oscar Otte in the previous Wimbledon 2021 round. Murray has already dropped three sets in his two matches here at Wimbledon and it would be interesting to see if he can recover physically in time ahead of this clash with Shapovalov. This will be the Brit’s first 3rd round appearance in Grand Slams since Wimbledon 2017 when he defeated Fognini en route to reaching the Quarter-Finals.
Shapovalov is the younger player here while Murray has more experience and the home crowd behind him. Our prediction for this match is Over 3.5 Sets at odds of 13/20 with Bet365.
