Novak Djokovic launches his quest for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title against debutant Pedro Cachin on Monday.

The Serb is looking to move level with Roger Federer and become the joint-most successful player at SW19 in men’s singles history, while pulling clear of Serena Williams by landing an Open Era record-breaking 24th grand slam.

For the second time in three years, he arrives at the All England Club on course to complete the calendar slam, having already triumphed at the Australian Open and French Open this season.

Djokovic was ultimately denied by Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final in 2021, and would love to go the extra step two years later.

The 36-year-old has never lost in the opening round at Wimbledon, and will fancy extending that unblemished record against first-timer Cachin.

It does not get much tougher for the Argentine on his grass-court major bow, though he will take confidence from claiming some notable scalps earlier in the season.

A Challenger Tour runner-up in Madrid and semi-finalist in Perugia, the world number 67 defeated the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Francisco Cerundolo on the way to reaching the Madrid Masters last 16, while he also overcame former US Open champion in the opening round of the recent French Open.

The winner of this match, which will be contested over the best of five sets on Monday, will play either Jordan Thompson or Brandon Nakashima in the second round.
