Defending champion Novak Djokovic will take on Thanasi Kokkinakis in the Second Round of Wimbledon on Wednesday.
Djokovic looked a tad rusty in his first competitive match on grass as he needed four sets to beat Soon Woo Kwon in the opening round on Centre Court on Monday. However, he started last year’s edition in a similar manner, by dropping a set to Jack Draper in the First Round.
The Serbian has won the last three editions of Wimbledon and he hasn’t suffered any defeats on grass since ATP London back in 2018.
The surprising fact is that Djokovic is yet to make a Semi-Final appearance in Grand Slams this year, but he has a great opportunity to achieve this here after the withdrawal of Berrettini and the elimination of Hurkacz.
Meanwhile, Kokkinakis has been struggling with consistency in the first half of the year, with his best results being in Miami back in March.
He has only won two out of his five matches on the clay surface and then lost his first match on grass at Surbiton.
It came as a surprise to see Thanasi winning in straight sets against Majchrzak in the first round of Wimbledon, especially after being eliminated by Cressy in the opening round of the previous edition.
