Top seed Novak Djokovic aims to secure a fourth consecutive Wimbledon title at the expense of first-time finalist Nick Kyrgios on Sunday.
Djokovic is attempting to become only the fifth man in the Open Era (after Björn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal) to register at least four consecutive titles at one major. By reaching his 32nd major final, he has surpassed the all-time record he had shared with Federer.
The Serbian star has not been at his prolific best this tournament, being pushed all the way by Jannik Sinner in the Quarter-Finals before having to recover from a set down to defeat Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the Semi-Final.
Kyrgios has undoubtedly had a more straightforward route to get to the final, mainly due to his Semi-Final walkover of Nadal after the Spaniard had to withdraw from the competition with an abdominal injury.
The Aussie ace had his own troubles reaching that Semi-Finals, though, being taken to five sets by both Paul Jubb and Brandon Nakashima before battling his way through.
The world number 40 has become the first unseeded man to reach a major final since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the 2008 Australian Open, as well as the first Australian man to reach a major final since Lleyton Hewitt at the 2005 Australian Open.
The pair have met on two previous occasions, both in 2017, and it’s Kyrgios who has prevailed in both – at Acapulco and Indian Wells.
