Reigning champion Novak Djokovic will take on Soonwoo Kwon in the First Round of Wimbledon 2022 on Monday.
Djokovic was on a nine-match winning streak prior to his loss against rival Rafa Nadal in the Quarter-Finals of the French Open. As a result of this loss, the Serbian star has lost his place at the top of the ATP Rankings to Daniil Medvedev for the second time this year.
Djokovic has played just one match on grass in the run-up to Wimbledon, but it was only an exhibition match where he demolished Auger-Aliassime in straight sets.
However, Nole should feel confident ahead of this opening match as he has won the last three editions of Wimbledon and hasn’t lost a completed match here since 2016.
Meanwhile, Kwon has had a solid start to the season but he lost his way recently. The Korean is currently on a four-match losing run on both clay and grass surfaces.
Kwon was knocked out from the opening round in each of the last three tournaments he competed in. Furthermore, he has won just one set in his last two matches on the grass surfaces.
In addition, Kwon has never won against a top-10 player so far in his career and holds a 4-8 record in the first round in Grand Slams.
