Jack Draper faces a tricky Wimbledon second-round clash against former finalist Marin Cilic at the All England Club on Thursday.

The British number one is aiming to progress to round three at the grass-court major for the first time.

His quest to do so began in a routine enough matter as, at two sets to the good, first-round opponent Sebastian Baez retired during the early stages of the third.

Draper now prepares to do battle with a player 13 years his senior in Cilic, who is back at Wimbledon after a four-year absence.

It is now a further four years since the Croatian reached the championship match at SW19, losing out as Roger Federer claimed his record-breaking eighth title.

The 36-year-old – a Challenger Tour winner in Girona and Nottingham this season, marked his return to Wimbledon with a straight-sets victory over Raphael Collignon in round one.

A showdown with either Fabian Marozsan or Jaume Munar awaits the winner of this clash in the third round.

The match gets under way at around 5.30pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of five sets on No.1 Court.

This is certainly a battle between youth and experience when it comes to Wimbledon.

Draper is yet to progress beyond round two at SW19, while former finalist Cilic is embarking on his 15th appearance.

Cilic, who has suffered a string of injuries in recent years, certainly has the upper hand in terms of experience and knowhow, though this is only his eighth ATP main-draw match of the season.

That factor will certainly play into the hands of his 23-year-old opponent, who has reached at least round four in each of the last three slams, including a semi-final appearance at the US Open.
