Crowd favourite Nick Kyrgios continues his Wimbledon comeback campaign against Gianluca Mager in Round Two on Thursday.
Kyrgios, who had been out of competitive action since the Australian Open back in February, showed little sign of rust as he came through a five-set thriller against Ugo Humbert in Round One on Wednesday.
The match was forced into a second day due to the 11pm curfew on Tuesday, and it was the Aussie who dug deep to close out an enthralling 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 9-7 victory over the recent Halle Open champion.
World number 60 Kyrgios’ best run at Wimbledon came in 2014 when he reached the Quarter-Finals – his joint best performance in a Grand Slam to date.
His next test comes in the form of Italy’s Mager – who overcame Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero in the opening round on Wednesday.
Mager is making his grass court debut and appeared at ease with the surface at SW19 as he bids to reach the Third Round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
The 26-year-old is world ranked 77 and was a quarter-finalist at Delray Beach and Belgrade and had prevailed in the First Round at Roland Garros this year, defeating Peter Gojoczyk before going down to compatriot Jannik Sinner.
Kyrgios is likely to whip the Wimbledon crowd into a frenzy once again as he continues his comeback trail and his experience should be enough to guide him into the next round.
