Former Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic has withdrawn from this year’s tournament after testing positive for COVID-19.

The 2017 runner-up was due to launch his 14th campaign at SW19 against Mackenzie McDonald on Tuesday.

And the Croatian was in fine form having already reached the semi-finals of the French Open and Cinch Championship this month.

But the 14th seed revealed on Twitter that an ongoing battle with COVID had left him with no choice but to pull out of the season’s third Slam.

“Hey guys, I am sad to share that I tested positive for COVID,” he told his 175,700 followers.

“I have been self-isolating and was hopeful I would be ready but unfortunately, I am still feeling unwell and unable to compete at my best.

“I am heartbroken to be missing Wimbledon and to see my grass season end this way.

“Looking forward to competing again next year.”
