Third seed Daniil Medvedev is bidding to make his first-ever Wimbledon quarter-final but will have to defeat Czech Jiri Lehecka in order to get there.
Medvedev has a good relationship with the grass, if not the form in the book to back that up. His flat shot production plays well on the surface, but he perhaps lacks the instincts or the perfect movement to be absolutely elite on the surface. However, he has dropped only one set in his first three matches, so is playing well so far.
The young Czech, Lehecka, can certainly lay claim to a great run in the tournament so far. He has already disposed of two seeds in Francisco Cerundolo and Tommy Paul. Lehecka seems to have a penchant for scorelines, he won his first match 6-4 6-4 6-4, his second match 6-2 6-2 6-2, and in the Tommy Paul five setter, three of the sets were 7-6 and the other two 6-2.
This pair have never met before on court but will face off in a fascinating encounter on No.1 Court.
This match could go quite deep. Lehecka has already played five sets this tournament, this may hinder him long term, but it is unlikely to have a huge effect here. Medvedev isn’t yet totally convincing on grass and Lehecka is exactly the type of tricky opponent that could take him out of the tournament before his seeding band.
Either Stefanos Tsitsipas or unseeded American Christopher Eubanks await the winner of this clash in the quarter-finals.
Play gets underway at around 1pm BST on Monday and will be contested over the best of five sets.
