Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray faces a blockbuster clash with fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in Round Two on Thursday.
One of the stand-out ties of the Second Round sees home hero Murray return to Centre Court to face the two-time Grand Slam finalist who is hoping to improve on his miserable record on grass.
Murray, whose first triumph here came a decade ago, has fought his way back to 40th in the world rankings and is enjoying a remarkable resurgence after the hip surgery which threatened to end his career.
The 36-year-old, who made his Wimbledon debut back in 2005, has picked up successive titles on the Challenger circuit on grass this season and looks to have continued that momentum into the Championships.
Murray brushed aside fellow Brit Ryan Peniston in straight sets in Round One earlier in the week, dropping only four games in the process.
He now faces a formidable test against the world number five – who began the year by reaching the final of the Australian Open.
Tsitsipas, however, has never been beyond Round Four in five previous Wimbledon appearances, and narrowly avoided a fourth opening round exit on Wednesday.
The Greek star came through a marathon five-set tie break against Dominic Thiem in a memorable match which was spread across the opening three days.
Despite being the higher ranked player and younger of the pair by 12 years, Tsitsipas comes into his show-down with Murray as the bookmaker’s outsider (11/10 with Sky Bet), given his inferior credentials on this surface.
Tsitsipas won the first of their two previous meetings at the 2021 US Open, before Murray prevailed on grass in Stuttgart last year.
The match gets under way from around 5pm BST on Centre Court, with either 32nd seed Ben Shelton or Serbia’s Laslo Djere awaiting the winner in the Third Round.
