Novak Djokovic resumes his mission for that eighth Wimbledon title against home favourite Dan Evans in round two on Thursday.

The seven-time champion continues his record of having reached the second round in all 20 of his appearances at the All England Club.

Djokovic’s latest campaign began with a four-set victory over Alexandre Muller on Tuesday, and he will be a heavy favourite to overcome world number 154 Evans.

It has been speculated this could be the Briton’s last appearance at his home major, where he had suffered three successive first-round exits prior to this year.

The 35-year-old ended the drought with a straight-sets win over compatriot Jay Clarke, though facing a 24-time major victor will be a completely different proposition altogether.

A showdown with either Miomir Kecmanovic or Jesper de Jong awaits the winner of this clash in round three.

The match gets under way at 1.30pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of five sets on Centre Court.

Evans already finds himself in uncharted territory this season, having failed to qualify for the Australian and French Open after dropping out of the world’s top 100.

The former Washington Open champion now looks to match his best performance at Wimbledon by reaching round three.

Roared on by the home crowd, you can see him getting at least a set on the board, and he did beat Djokovic in their only previous meeting in Monte-Carlo four years ago.

But on the biggest of stages, you would expect the Serb to just have too much for him, especially when you consider he has only failed to progress beyond this round at Wimbledon once in 19 previous appearances.
