Rafael Nadal has pulled out of Wimbledon at the semi-final stage with his abdominal issue cutting short his attempt for a third Grand Slam of the year.
The Spaniard turned 36 this year but has proven that his age isn’t a barrier to him continuing to pick up important wins. Whilst his French Open win was almost academic with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 win over Casper Ruud, his victory at the Australian Open was anything but. Nadal had to fight back from two sets down to claim a five set win over Daniil Medvedev, a win that showed his resolve and allayed fears that injuries could stop him from competing at the very top level.
Wimbledon has been Nadal’s least successful Grand Slam, although that doesn’t feel like talking him down much, with two championships but with the form he’s in would you bet against him winning all here?
With the draw now being made, Nadal’s potential route to the final can be seen below.
