Roberto Bautista Agut has withdrawn from Wimbledon after testing positive for COVID-19 ahead of his second-round clash with Daniel Galan.
A semi-finalist in 2019, Bautista Agut arrived at SW19 full of momentum following his run to the final in Mallorca last week.
But after opening with a commanding straight-sets victory over Hungary’s Attila Balazs on Tuesday, the 17th seed has been forced to pull out of the tournament.
Colombia’s Galan subsequently receives a bye into the third round, where he will play either Denis Shapovalov or Brandon Nakashima.
Bautista Agut is the latest player to have returned a positive test after former finalists Marin Cilic and Matteo Berrettini withdrew for the same reason earlier this week.
The Spaniard wrote on Instagram: “Sadly today, I have notified the organisation of Wimbledon of my withdrawal from the competition.
“Yesterday, I started not feeling very well and I tested positive for Covid-19.
“Symptoms are not very serious, but I think this is the best decision.
“Thank you for all your support always. I hope to be back on court soon.”
