Multiple ATP Tour title winners Andrey Rublev and David Goffin meet in a tantalising third round encounter at Wimbledon 2023.
The Russian seventh seed has actually had a tricky draw for this year’s Championships. He has alredy disposed of big serving Australian Max Purcell and then even bigger serving Aslan Karatsev, dropping the opening set on that occasion.
David Goffin is a wild card at this year’s Championships after dropping quite far down the rankings. At 32, his best years are behind him, but he definitely still has the quality to produce some excellent performances. He evidenced this in the opening two rounds, producing two eerily similar wins. He dropped the second set 7-5 in each match, before winning the third and fourth sets by the same 6-2 6-0 scoreline against Fabian Marozsan and Tomas Barrios Vera.
This match has the potential to go to more than three sets as well but Rublev has come out on top in previous matches. Both of the matches these two have played have been in Grand Slams, Rublev winning in straight sets in New York and then in four in Australia. Rublev would be the favourite for this one as well and backing him for the win is favoured here.
The winner of this match will play either Canadian Denis Shapovalov or British wild card Liam Broady in the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Play gets underway at around 5pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of five sets.
