World number one Iga Swiatek steps up her quest for a maiden Wimbledon title with a Quarter-Final show-down against Elina Svitolina on Tuesday.
Swiatek has already broken new ground by reaching her first Wimbledon Quarter-Final and is vying to capture a third of the four Grand Slam titles.
The reigning US Open and French Open champion will retain the world number one ranking if she can reach the final as she bids to fend off the challenge of Aryna Sabalenka.
Swiatek has not had things all her own way in reaching this stage and had to survive a real scare against Belinda Bencic in the Fourth Round, recovering from a set down to keep her title dream alive.
Prior to that, the Polish sensation had swept aside Zhu Lin, Sara Sorribes Tormo and Petra Martić without dropping a set.
Swiatek now comes up against Svitolina for only the second time, having won their only previous meeting in Rome two years ago.
Svitolina is no stranger to this stage of the Championships, having embarked on a terrific run to the Semi-Finals back in 2019 – where she was defeated by eventual champion Simona Halep.
The Ukrainian battled through a two-hour, 46-minute epic against Victoria Azarenka in a deciding set tie break last time out and looks to be back to her brilliant best.
The 28-year-old, who also reached the Quarter-Finals of this year’s French Open, began her run here by defeating five-time champion Venus Williams in straight sets, before edging out Elise Mertens in a decider and sweeping back Sofia Kenin in two.
In doing so, she has become the first wildcard to reach the Quarter-Finals at Wimbledon since Sabine Lisicki in 2011.
Either fourth seed Jessica Pegula or Czech star Markéta Vondroušová will await the winner in the Semi-Finals.
Play gets underway from 1.30pm BST on Centre Court on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of three sets.
