The Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka is looking to make it two Grand Slam titles in a year at Wimbledon 2023.
The Belarusian will have to get past newly naturalised Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva in the second round to do this though.
Sabalenka was impressive in her opening round victory against Panna Udvardy. The world number two lost only four games in the match and got better as the match went on.
Gracheva has had a decent season on the WTA Tour. She carries a 63% win record from 2023, including a final appearance in Austin earlier in the year. Gracheva is currently up at near her ranking peak at #43 and this won’t be an easy task for Aryna Sabalenka.
However, Sabalenka does outmatch Gracheva in most aspects of the game. The Belarusian has a more powerful set of weapons, be it serve, forehand or backhand. This should be enough for Sabalenka to progress into the third round.
The winner of this match will play either Irina-Camelia Begu or Anna Blinkova in the third round at Wimbledon.
Play gets underway at around 1pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of three sets on No.1 Court.
