Alexander Zverev faces off with Gijs Brouwer for a place in the second round of Wimbledon on Thursday.
Zverev plays his first match in the tournament, with rain hitting play hard in the opening days at SW19 and the number 19 seed will be looking to make a big impact.
Momentum is certainly on the 26-year-old’s side, with a semi-final appearance at the French Open earlier this year being the third time he’s reached that stage in a row. He’s seen less success on the grass courts of Wimbledon though, failing to make it past the fourth round in six attempts.
Brouwer enters his first Wimbledon tournament after coming through the qualifiers and the 27-year-old will be hoping to pull on a huge scalp on his first appearance.
A run to the second round of the US Open in 2022 has been the highlight of the Dutchman’s career so far and, ranked at 152 in the world, expectations are fairly low.
The winner of this tie will face off against either Marc-Andrea Hüsler or Yosuke Watanuki in the next round, with Hüsler currently holding a two set advantage.
The winner of this match, which will be contested over the best of five sets on Thursday, will progress to the second round at Wimbledon.
