Alexander Zverev looks to advance to the third round of Wimbledon when he faces Japan’s Youske Watanuki on Friday.
The German, number 19 seed will be looking to advance to the third round for the fourth time in his last six attempts and was able to overcome Gijs Brouwer in the last round, beating the Dutchman in straight sets.
The fourth round has been Zverev’s limit in his outings at Wimbledon so far but he’s got momentum on his side after a semi-final appearance in the French Open, in May.
Watanuki entered Wimbledon as a lucky loser, losing in qualifying but being allocated a place in the competition when other athletes had to withdraw. The Japanese star needed all five sets to make it past Marc-Andrea Hüsler in round one but he showed his grit, winning two tie breakers on the way.
The 25-year-old is currently ranked at 115 in the world and this year marks his first taking to the courts in SW19.
The winner of this match will play either Matteo Berrettini or Alex de Minaur in the third round at Wimbledon.
Play gets underway at around 1pm BST on No.2 Court on Thursday and will be contested over the best of five sets.
