Aryna Sabalenka: Year to date
Sabalenka has, probably, had the most impressive year of anyone on the WTA circuit, in 2023. She was crowned champion at the Australian Open, winning her first Grand Slam just months after making the semi-final of the 2022 US Open. The French Open proved to be another good event for her, as she made it to the semi-finals before being knocked out by Karolina Muchova.
It was the same story for the 25-year-old at Wimbledon, where she made her way to the final four with relative ease before being eliminated by Ons Jabeur.
She entered the US Open as one of the favourites, and it’s been a good event for Sabalenka in recent years with three semi-finals in as many appearances.
Whatever happens, she is guaranteed to become the new world number one following Iga Swiatek’s fourth-round exit at Flushing Meadows.
