Iga Swiatek resumes her quest for a first grass-court title against Anna Blinkova in the Bad Homburg Open quarter-finals on Thursday.

The world number one remains the player to beat, having landed the French Open last time out – adding to her triumphs in Doha and Stuttgart earlier this season.

But despite taking her career tally of WTA titles to 14 in just under three years, Swiatek is still yet to taste success on grass – a milestone she will be desperate to tick off as early as possible.

It looked like the Pole’s wait may go on when she lost the first set against last year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria in the opening round.

But in her trademark dominant fashion, Swiatek has dropped just six games since – recovering to prevail in three sets, before sweeping Jil Teichmann aside 6-3, 6-1 in round two to break new ground on surface.

The 22-year-old is now set for her first grass-court quarter-final, but she will be wary of the player across the net from her.

A recent runner-up to Elina Svitolina in Strasbourg, Blinkova has built on her momentum by taking out two former grand slam finalists to reach the last eight.

First, she came from behind to defeat 2013 Wimbledon runner-up Sabine Lisicki, before overcoming 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in straight sets.

And the world number 39 has fond surface memories. Indeed, she was a runner-up at SW19 during her junior days eight years ago.

A showdown with Lucia Bronzetti awaits the winner of this match in the semi-finals.

Play gets underway at around 3.30pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of three sets at Bad Homburg.
