Anett Kontaveit will take on Jelena Ostapenko for the second time in two weeks, as the pair meets in the semifinals of the 2022 Qatar Open on Friday.
Anett Kontaveit comes into this clash on the back of an eight-match winning streak. During this run, the Estonian did well to lift the title in St. Petersburg where she defeated no one else than Ostapenko in the Semifinals.
This week in Doha, Anett has only dropped one set in three matches after beating the likes of Konjuh, Mertens and Jabeur. Prior to this edition, Kontaveit had never won three matches in a row in Doha.
Kontaveit’s form over the past year has been impressive as she has won 41 of her last 47 matches. In addition, she has won eight of her nine semifinal matches since February 2021.
Meanwhile, Jelena Ostapenko has seen a resurgence in form this season. She did lose against Kontaveit in the semifinals of the St. Petersburg Open, but managed to win the title in Dubai.
The Latvian is currently on a nine-match winning streak, including three impressive victories here in Doha. She defeated the likes of Anisimova, Krejcikova and Muguruza while dropping just one set.
Ostapenko’s best result here in Doha was a runner-up finish back in 2016 when she lost to Carla Suarez Navarro.
