Anastasia Potapova and Simona Halep will square off in the opening round of the VTB Kremlin Cup on Tuesday at 14.00pm (UK Time).
Anastasia Potapova has enjoyed a good run of form of late, having won five of her last seven matches on hard courts. She has recently reached the quarterfinals in Nur-Sultan where she lost in three sets against Peterson. She also did well to reach the round of 16 in Ostrava coming through qualifiers. However, prior to these two tournaments, Potapova has suffered opening-round exits in Chicago, US Open and Luxembourg.
Meanwhile, Simona Halep comes into this tournament after a second-round elimination at the Indian Wells. She has won four of her last six matches on hard courts, but this is far beyond her level. Her best performance in 2021 was a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open. Furthermore, her latest title was in Rome back in 2020 on the clay surface while her last trophy on hard courts was in Dubai also in 2020.
