Iga Swiatek crashed out of Wimbledon on Saturday, after being beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Alize Cornet, her first defeat in 37 matches.

Swiatek has had a sensational 2022, rising to number one in the world ranking, making the semi finals of the Australian Open and winning the French Open. It’s been an incredible six months for the Polish superstar and she’s targeting a win at Wimbledon to really move herself into the elite of women’s tennis.

The 21 year old enjoyed her run in the Australian Open, reaching the semi finals by beating Daria Kasatkina, Sorana Cîrstea and Kaia Kanepi before falling to Danielle Collins. Her French Open victory was very impressive with Swiatek dropping just one set on her way to the trophy and losing just 12 games in the latter stages in a truly dominant display.

Swiatek rose to world number one in April, a culmination of her winning four of the first five WTA 1000 events including the Miami Open, Indian Wells Open and the Italian Open and whilst she’s had a great year, a third round exit at Wimbledon will be a huge disappointment for her.
