Veronika Kudermetova and Anhelina Kalinina are both looking to make their first WTA 1000 final in their semi-final in Rome on Friday.

Both players have been knocking on the door for a while so it will be a justified breakthrough for whoever does win the match on Friday at 14:30 UK time.

Kudermetova came through a very testing draw against Anastasia Potapova, Maria Bouzkova, and Qinwen Zheng to reach this stage. She also reached the semi-finals in Stuttgart recently to confirm her status as a regular contender for the latter stages of tournaments.

Kalinina has had a slightly easier route, but still had to go three sets with both Madison Keys and Beatriz Haddad Maia in the last two rounds.
