Petra Kvitova and Madison Keys will meet in the opening round of the Cincinnati Masters 2021, with both looking to get back to winning ways.
Petra Kvitova has been struggling with consistency after her ankle injury at the Roland Garros two months ago. The Czech has lost four of her last six matches on grass and hard courts. During this poor run, Petra has suffered first-round eliminations at Wimbledon and Prague, and second-round exits at the Tokyo Olympics and Montreal. Kvitova has reached the semifinals in Cincinnati in 2012 and 2018, but five of her last six appearances here ended in the second round.
Meanwhile, Madison Keys is currently on a three-match losing streak, having failed to win a single set in the process. She has reached the 4th round of the Wimbledon a month ago, but then has suffered eliminations in the opening rounds of San Jose and Montreal. Keys has played just 14 tournaments since January 2020 and ten of those have ended in the second round.
