Stefanos Tsitsipas and Lorenzo Sonego will square off in the Second Round of the 2021 Cincinnati Masters on Thursday.
Sonego is 2-1 in the Round of 16 in Masters 1000 events, with that sole defeat coming against Tsitsipas in Miami earlier this year. Sonego kicked off his Cincinnati Masters 2021 campaign with comfortable victories against talented players in the likes of Alcaraz and Tommy Paul.
Sonego’s sole trophy this year was in Cagliari on clay, but he looked very solid on grass courts also. He finished as runner up to De Minaur in Eastbourne and also reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon where he lost in straight sets at the hands of Roger Federer.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas had a tricky opponent in the shape of Sebastian Korda in the opening round here in Cincinnati, but the Greek managed to close the match in straight sets after saving several breakpoints. Tsitsipas has won six of his last eight matches on hard courts, including his Semi-Final run in Toronto a week ago.
The Greek has failed to register a single victory in his two previous visits to this venue, but he did well to reach the Semifinal in the New York edition of Cincinnati Masters last year.
