Katerina Siniakova will take on Garbine Muguruza in the first round of the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday.
Siniakova had an awful start to the season, having registered back-to-back first-round eliminations in Melbourne, Adelaide and Australian Open.
However, she has been in fantastic shape on the doubles circuit, having won the Melbourne Set and the Australian Open. Due to the recent performances, Siniakova is now the world number one on the doubles circuit.
The Czech had to play in qualifying here in Dubai and has dropped just one set in three matches.
Meanwhile, Muguruza has also had a poor start to the season, having lost two and won two of her four matches on hard courts. She defeat Burel in the opening round of the AO 2022, but then went on to lose to Cornet in straight sets.
Everyone expected Muguruza to perform much better in this early part of the year after she ended 2021 with a title at the WTA Finals in Guadalajara.
Muguruza is the reigning champion in Dubai after she won the 2021 edition in a comfortable manner, beating Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets in the final.
