Fifth seed Aryna Sabalenka will take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the second Semi-final of the day in the 2021 WTA Madrid Open.
Aryna Sabalenka has had an impeccable run here in Madrid this week as she didn’t drop a single set in her four victories over Zvonareva, Kasatkina, Pegula, and Mertens. During this run, the Belarusian has only lost 13 games, which is actually the fewest out of the four semifinalists. Sabalenka fought well against Barty in the final of the Stuttgart Open a week ago, but a couple of mistakes in the decisive set allowed Barty to lift the trophy.
Meanwhile, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has finally hit some form after a long time, especially on the clay surface. She started her week in Madrid with a surprising two-straight sets victory over Keys and followed this up with three more wins against Karolina Pliskova, Brady, and Muchova. She has struggled for consistency prior to this tournament, but she now looks in good shape and definitely has a chance here.
Aryna Sabalenka is one of the most powerful hitters on tour, but Pavlyuchenkova is able to deal with that. We expect a match that has the potential to go over three sets, so the Over 19.5 games at 4/5 looks solid here.
