It should be a high quality final on Sunday when the world numbers two and three go head to head at Flushing Meadows for the right to be named US Open Champion 2023.
Medvedev comes into the final off the back of a shock win over world number one, and reigning US Open title holder, Carlos Alacaraz. Djokovic ended the hopes of home country hero, Ben Shelton, in the other semi-final, setting up this massive final match at the final Grand Slam of the year.
Djokovic comes into the final as the favourite, and a win would see him cap off an incredible year which has seen him win the Australian Open and French Open, as well as making the final of Wimbledon. Medvedev is no slouch, though, and won this competition in 2021, something he’ll be keen to repeat.
It shouldn’t be a walkover but Djokovic looks likely to be lifting another record breaking Grand Slam, once again.

Daniil Medvedev road to the US Open final
Medvedev has struggled at times during the tournament, dropping sets against Christopher O’Connell and Alex de Minaur, but also shown his class, specifically in the demolition of Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final.

Apart from a blip in the second round, where Djokovic was two sets down to fellow countryman, Laslo Djere,. the Serbian has been in imperious form, winning in straight sets in every other match.
Some have said that Djokovic’s route to the final has been a little easier than the other side of the draw, but the 36-year-old has dealt with what has been put in front of him with the genuine class he’s show over the past decade.
