Caroline Garcia looks to record her third straight victory over Leylah Fernandez when they clash in the Wimbledon second round on Thursday.

The Frenchwoman prevailed in both meetings between the players earlier this year, including a straight-sets triumph at this stage of the Australian Open in January.

Garcia, who also came out on top when they clashed at Indian Wells, is making her 10th appearance at Wimbledon, where she is aiming to reach round four for the third time at the very least.

The fifth seed built momentum on grass with runs to the quarter-finals in Berlin and Eastbourne, before opening her SW19 campaign with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-3 victory over Katie Volynets.

Meanwhile, Fernandez claimed her first win at the All England Club, from where she was absent last year due to a fractured foot, as she battled past Kateryna Baindl in the opening round 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Runner-up to Emma Raducanu at the US Open two years ago, the Canadian has struggled to kick on from that fairytale run in New York – reaching just four WTA quarter-finals since, while slipping to 95th in the rankings.

Those rare deep runs saw her successfully defend her crown in Monterrey last year, and reach the last eight of the French Open.

But Fernandez has enjoyed better fortunes in doubles this season. Alongside Taylor Townsend, she was a women’s doubles finalist at Roland Garros and Miami, while she also partnered Bethanie Mattek-Sands to the championship match in Auckland at the start of the year.

The winner of this match, which will be contested over the best of three sets on Thursday, will play either 32nd seed Marie Bouzkova or Anett Kontaveit in round three at Wimbledon.
