Jodie Burrage looks to delight her home crowd once more when she faces Daria Kasatkina in the second round at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

One of the standout moments on the opening day at SW19 saw the Briton claim her maiden victory at the third attempt at the grass-court major.

Burrage had won just eight games across her previous two appearances at the All England Club, where she was comprehensively beaten in straight sets by Lauren Davis and Lesia Tsurenko.

But it was a different story this time around for the 24-year-old, who arrived fresh from reaching the Rothesay Open final following victories over the likes of Magda Linette, Alize Cornet and Magdalena Frech.

Buoyed by that momentum on Court No.3, she stormed to a commanding and emotional 6-1, 6-3 win over Caty McNally, shedding tears of joy following the contest’s conclusion.

And Burrage will now hope to create more magical memories on her first appearance on Centre Court, though she faces a much tougher proposition in Kasatkina.

Like her opponent, the 11th seed was a recent finalist on grass, narrowly missing out on the Eastbourne title to Madison Keys.

Also runner-up to Belinda Bencic in Adelaide at the start of the season, Kasatkina came through the opening round without too many difficulties, sweeping Caroline Dolehide aside 6-1, 6-4.

And having missed last year, she will look to make up for lost time by matching her run to the quarter-finals in 2018. There, she defeated future champion Ash Barty along the way, before succumbing to that year’s eventual winner in Angelique Kerber.

The winner of this match will play either Victoria Azarenka or Nadia Podoroska in the third round at Wimbledon.

Play gets underway at 1.30pm BST on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of three sets on Centre Court.
